Tis the season to roll heads instead of golf balls. Golfweek fired its Vice President/Editor Dave Seanor for sending this cover to print. The cover makes the most sense when taken in the context of the lynching Golf Channel has endured. Surprisingly, much of the trouble that has come to Golf Channel is in reaction to its handling of Kelly Tilghman: Many folks think they were too hard on her.
How is Kelly being funny here? Golfweek’s extensive and in-depth coverage of the events to date does not really clear up that question. It does point out Ms. Tilghman’s B.A. from Duke and her resultant support from “Blue Devil Nation.” (Why is every little whacko group now called a nation?)
Normally, hitting a good shot makes golf fun, but in this case it’s the comedy and controversy supplying the giggles. The expectation here is that the fun is not over, either. Experience shows that Eastern Time Zone types just don’t get it, and that lack of awareness really cracks the rest of us up.
